It can be difficult to find time for yourself when you are a busy mama. When my boys were little it was almost impossible, and when I did get time to myself all I wanted to do was catch up on the much needed sleep that I had been missing.
Now that my boys are a little older, and a little more self-sufficient, my husband and I find it much easier to take turns leaving the house for stretches of time. We no longer have to constantly worry that the house is going to go up in flames, or that the boys are going to be in total meltdown-mode. Which means there is no longer the guilt that used to come from making your partner fend for themselves so you can escape and have time away.
The big question these days is what to spend my time doing while I’m away. And one of the answers is a ladies night. How can you say no to filling a room with some of your favorite people and sharing good food and great conversations?!
But restaurants can get expensive! And it can be hard to chat with all of the ladies because you are confined to seats that keep you next to the same two people. Plus sometimes I want to get out of the house for a couple of hours, and they usually frown upon that at restaurants when you are keeping the table from other patrons.
The solution? A Bunco Night! What is Bunco? It’s a highly social, fast-paced dice game played in groups of 8-16. Players sit at tables in groups of four and take turns rolling three dice, aiming to match the target number of the current round. Are there more game rules? Yes. Do we need to get into them right now? No. Instead I want to point out my favorite reasons why Bunco is guaranteed to be a hit.
First, you don’t need to have played before, have any skills or even pay attention. There is absolutely no strategy involved in Bunco. Sit down, roll dice and see if you roll certain numbers. That is it in a nutshell.
Second, you never play with the same partner. Throughout the evening you continually get split up so that you play with everyone in the room. Bunco ensures you will get to chat with all of your favorite ladies during the evening. And also helps make any newbies that don’t know anyone feel comfortable because they will meet and play with the entire crew, and have a fun game to keep them occupied instead of just normal awkward “getting to know you” small talk.
Finally, the game can go on as long or as short as you need. As long as all players play the same amount of rounds, it doesn’t matter if you end the night after one set or six sets.The added bonus? If you have everyone bring $5 for the pot then you can even take home some winnings so your partner is downright happy about your time away!

I’ve even attended some Bunco Nights that include themes where the ladies go all out and dress up in costumes.
