HOW TO HELP YOUR CHILD FEEL SAFE IN THEIR “BIG KID” BEDROOM.

This summer was a big one for the Hopkins Household. Owen and Griffin decided they were ready to move from their shared bedroom into their own separate rooms.

Adam and I were a bit hesitant. Both boys are still slightly afraid of the dark, and neither will spend time upstairs unless one of us parents is around. Let’s be honest—they won’t even run upstairs to grab a toy from their room and come right back down unless they move at lightning speed and turn on every single light switch they pass along the way!

We seriously wondered if any sleep at all would happen once they were sleeping alone.

I’m happy to report that the transition to separate bedrooms was a massive success. In fact, it was probably easier than any of the other sleep milestones Griffin and Owen have gone through. (And if you’ve been following along, you know they were terrible sleepers as babies!)

So, how did we pull it off?

The Secret Weapon: An Amazon Bed Tent Canopy

One of the biggest reasons for the easy transition to their own rooms was this Amazon Privacy Bed Tent.

Instead of a wide-open, dark room full of scary shadows, the tent provides a cozy “cave” that allows the kids to feel enclosed and safe. No longer are they worried about shadows or noises in the corner of the room, because they are zipped into their own personal safe zone with their favorite stuffed animals.

Why This Blackout Bed Tent Works:

If you have a child who struggles to fall asleep or is transitioning to a new room, here is why this specific tent is such a game-changer:

  • 90% Blackout Fabric: It blocks out distracting hallway light, early morning sun, or streetlights, which keeps them sleeping longer.
  • Breathable Design: The mesh windows allow for plenty of airflow so they don’t overheat during the night.
  • Cozy Sensory Space: It creates a smaller, comforting environment that reduces the anxiety of a big, new room.
  • Easy Setup: It fits right over their existing mattress, making it super simple to install.

Sleep Better, Parent Better.

I would highly recommend this bed tent canopy to any parents helping their kids make the transition to a big kid room, or for children who struggle with bedtime fears. They will sleep better, you will sleep better and the whole house will be much happier. And who doesn’t want that?!

If you want to try it out for your own kiddos, you can find the exact one we used here:
