Yes, you read that right. We got the Airbnb guest message that no one wants to receive. “We think there may be an animal in your attic.”
Thankfully the guest was very understanding and didn’t ding us when they provided a review. Bad news is that Blueberry House was steadily booked for the next few weeks.
Turns out that a momma squirrel decided to claw her way up a wooden beam and make her nest in the roof of the back deck. The good news is that this area doesn’t connect to the entire attic. The bad news, it does connect to the ceiling of the only bathroom in the house.
Fortunately for the squirrel, neither Adam nor I would ever hire exterminators to come and get rid of the problem. But what to do?!
Adam went to work researching. The solution? An animal-safe repellant that he placed in the attic space.
Warning to anyone that is thinking about using the product. It stinks! Make sure you are wearing gloves or you will learn the hard way (like Adam did) that it won’t easily wash off.
Did it work? Kind of. Yes, it got the squirrels out of the attic. But unfortunately we never closed the hole, so we are in quite the predicament. New season, new squirrel family.
The step we forgot? The one-way door that allows the squirrels to get out but never back in. This is key to finally stopping the cycle.
