Life has been way too busy and chaotic lately. Yes, that is usually the case. However, there are those times when everything seems to really pile up on you.
Lately I’ve had a couple of family photo sessions to tackle, been volunteering in Griff’s school, running the big fundraiser for Owen’s school, trying to find time to write blog posts and market them on Pinterest, had a coworker leave that added more to my work plate, been getting the kids ready for baseball every other day, making all the school lunches, figuring out all the dinners, trying to keep up with all the laundry, living on less sleep and way too much caffeine.
My body was tired, my mind was tired and I could feel myself starting to break down. So, you know what I decided to do this past Sunday? I spent the entire day ignoring all of these things. I decided to take a break, unwind and read a book!
Let me tell you, that it was glorious. I highly recommend doing it when you feel like you need a reset. Am I cured? No. Do I still have all that on my plate, and more? Yes. But it was a much needed recharge to help me get through this final stretch before the kids’ upcoming fall break!
If you are curious about my book of choice, it was book #3 in the Dungeon Crawler Carl series. Although I’m sure this book was originally intended for a male audience, I find it hilarious and the perfect escape for a couple hours.
The book series follows Carl and his girlfriend’s prize-winning show cat, Princess Donut, as they try to survive the end of the world in a video game-like trap-filled fantasy dungeon. The premise is ridiculous, and I can’t even fathom how the author (Matt Dinniman) has such a vivid and unbelievable imagination. But somehow it works, and keeps me highly entertained.
Check out the series below on Amazon, all are free with Kindle Unlimited, or download from your library for free (like I do!)
Dungeon Crawler Carl Book One.
Dungeon Crawler Carl Book Two: Carl’s Doomsday Scenario.
Dungeon Crawler Carl Book Three: The Dungeon Anarchist’s Cookbook.
Dungeon Crawler Carl Book Four: The Gate of the Feral Gods.
Dungeon Crawler Carl Book Five: The Butcher’s Masquerade.
Dungeon Crawler Carl Book Six: The Eye of the Bedlam Bride.
Dungeon Crawler Carl Book Seven: This Inevitable Ruin.
Dungeon Crawler Carl Book Eight: A Parade of Horribles.
Warning that there are still two more books to be written by Matt Dinniman for the series, so know that now before you get hooked and are pissed you can’t read the finished storyline. Don’t kill the messenger!
And if you just can’t even imagine getting into this series, find your own book that will help you get away from life for a little bit and unwind!
I promise that you won’t regret putting those dishes aside for a bit and giving yourself a much needed and deserved break from this chaotic world! You will be happier, and so will all those people in your life that have been dealing with your stressed out self.
